With Star Trek celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2016, work is already underway for Star Trek 3, which is actually the thirteenth film in the franchise. The Hollywood Reporter reveals that Patrickut McKay and J.D. Payne will be joining the returning Roberto Orci. They add that Orci’s writing partner, Alex Kurtzman is not involved.
According to the site:
“The next Star Trek film is untitled and unscheduled, but Paramount and Skydance are hoping to have a film in time for the franchise to celebrate its 50th anniversary in 2016. Stars Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto and Zoe Saldana are expected to return.”
J.J. Abrams will not be helming the movie due to him directing Star Wars: Episode VII, but he will still be involved as a producer. Attack the Block helmer Joe Cornish is high on the list of potential candidates.
Payne and McKay already have a relationship with Abrams. The duo wrote the script adapting Boilerplate: History’s Mechanical Marvel, a planned adaptation of the book by Paul Guinan and Anina Bennett.
