Could Suicide Squad be facing a ban in one of the world’s most lucrative box office markets?

Well, according to The Hollywood Reporter, the DC/Warner Bros. movie may not be released in China due to it’s dark content.

It is believed that David Ayer’s film cost $175 million and needs to earn $750-800 million just to break even. If it is banned in China then  this figure may struggle to be achieved.

THR said that “China Film Group, the state-backed distributor that handles the import of all foreign films, hasn’t put the movie on its internal release calendar, which is typically set at least two months in advance”.

Warner Bros. retitled the film “Special Task Force X” for China, however it appears that it has run up against official guidelines, which states, “propagating passive or negative outlook on life, worldview and value system” is verboten.
