March 30th, 2020 by Irwin Fletcher Comments

As hard to believe as it is, we are now well into the 21st century, and whereas heads in glass jars, flying cars, and hover boards are still a way off, it is safe to say that technology now plays an important role in everyday life.

Because of the advancements in modern technology, certain online industries and businesses are benefitting massively. The online casino industry for example, is currently thriving, and with more and more people showing an avid interest in online gambling and bingo, that trend is only going to continue as some of the top bingo companies invest more in their online presence.

If you’re interested in casinos, but feel like a break from gambling, why not sit back, relax, and watch a casino-themed movie instead?

Here’s a look at the biggest casino movies of the 21st century.

Ocean’s Eleven

First on our list we have a movie that just made the cut by one year. Having been released in 2011, Ocean’s Eleven is considered by many to be one of the greatest casino movies of all time, and yes, we know that it’s a remake. Ocean’s Eleven is a remake of the Rat Pack classic from the 60s which tells the tale of recently released master criminal Danny Ocean, putting a team together in order to attempt to rob a series of Las Vegas casinos. Starring George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Andy Garcia, and many, many more Hollywood mega stars, this movie spawned a series of successful sequels, though you may want to forget Ocean’s Twelve.

Revolver

Okay, Revolver may not be a classic, but it’s an enjoyable British crime movie by Guy Ritchie, and it is certainly one of the best in recent memory. Starring Jason Statham, Revolver tells the story of Jake Green, recently released from prison, hell bent on seeking revenge against a violent casino owned played by the wonderful Ray Liotta, who was responsible for Green being sent down in the first place. As time has gone by, more and more people have appreciated the brilliance of this movie.

Casino Royale

Every list article you see that talks about popular casino movies simply has ti feature Casino Royale. Starring Daniel Craig as James Bond for the very first time, this super stylish Bond flick sees James entering a high stakes game of poker against arms dealer and private banker for terrorists, Le Chiffre, played by Mads Mikkelsen. Bond’s goal is basically to bankrupt the nefarious banker so as to financially disrupt countless terrorist organizations across the globe. This is one of the highest grossing casino movies ever, and we can understand why.

The Cooler

Finally, we have The Cooler. This movie stars William. H Macy whose official title is a ‘cooler’. His job at a casino is to make winners into losers. Macy plays Bernie Lootz, who is a reformed gambler that is working off a gambling debt to a casino boss played by Alec Baldwin. Once Bernie falls in love, his luck begins to change, and Baldwin’s character is not impressed. This movie earned Baldwin a Golden Globes nomination.
