Tom Cruise developing Jack Reacher sequel

December 11th, 2013 by Irwin Fletcher Comments

Paramount Pictures and Skydance Productions are moving ahead on a Jack Reacher sequel based on Lee Child‘s novel Never Go Back, which was published earlier this fall.

The story follows Reacher as he “heads back to his old military based in Virginia to take a woman to dinner who is now the commanding officer. By the time he gets there, she has been arrested and Reacher finds himself being charged with pummeling one guy, and fathering a child with a woman. He can’t remember either transgression, but gets to the bottom of it with cunning and sometimes brute force.”

According to Deadline, the studio is putting the film on the fast track to production, which means this may end up being Cruise’s next film after Mission: Impossible 5. The studio is currently looking for writers. Christopher McQuarrie wrote and directed the first film, but he won’t be back to write the sequel as he’ll be busy with M:I5, although the studio is hoping to bring him back to direct.

It would be great if they got McQuarrie and Cruise back together again.
