Every since the first cast photo for the new Jumanji movie arrived, people have been wondering why Karen Gillen looks like Lara Croft in Tomb Raider.
Well, wait no longer for the answer because Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson revealed the story behind the image during CinemaCon this past weekend.
First of all, the former wrestling star confirmed that the film would be a sequel to Robin Williams’ 1995 original and that it would be called Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle.
Next he revealed a twist in the story in that the movie will centre on a video game and not board game. Four high schoolers are stuck in detention in an ode to the 1985 classic The Breakfast Club. As part of their punishment, they are called upon to clean the school’s basement.
Amongst the junk that has been locked away is an old video game console and a cartridge for Jumanji: The Video Game. Each kid gets to choose their own video game avatars. The four main characters in the game are based on the likenesses of Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart, Jack Black and Karen Gillan. With Tomb Roader being a huge gaming character in the 90s, it’s no surprise to see Gillan in that tight-fitting adventure gear.
Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle arrives in cinemas this Christmas with a trailer expected soon.
