Wonder Woman series Amazon no longer in development

January 16th, 2014 by Irwin Fletcher Comments

Yeah it’s probably not much of a surprise given the character’s upcoming big screen debut in Batman vs Superman, but The Hollywood Reporter today confirmed that The CW is no longer developing Amazon, the planned series that would have followed a young Diana of Themyscira.

The project was “put on hold” in July. Amazon was poised to explore the origin story of Wonder Woman’s alter ego Diana of Themyscira. The network announced in September 2012 that it was teaming with Grey’s Anatomy’s Allan Heinberg to develop the story. The script was redeveloped in May, with Heroes writer Aron Eli Coleite taking a shot at the story, and the network was poised to go to pilot for a potential pickup. But that no longer will happen.

CW president Mark Pedowitz told The Hollywood Reporter:

“We did not go forward with it”

While Amazon will not move forward, Pedowitz was open to taking another shot at the iconic Wonder Woman if the right material were to come along:

“It all depends on the script. We were very careful with Arrow, and we’re being very careful with Flash. These are iconic characters, so we’re going to be very careful with Wonder Woman. You only get one shot before you get bit.”

Wonder Woman fans will still have Gal Gadot’s big screen turn as the iconic hero to look forward to on July 17th of next year.

Maybe this is a possible sign that a Wonder Woman solo film is being planned?
