All three Spider-man actors get together to recreate THAT meme

February 23rd, 2022 by Marc Comments

We’re all well familiar with the popular Spider-man meme the character, em, pointing at himself (more on that soon).

Becoming very popular over the last few years, the original image featured two Spider-men pointing at each other and came from episode 19b of the 1967 Spider-Man cartoon, called “Double Identity”, which saw a villain pretending to be Spider-man.

It looked like this:

The full clip is here.

It had become so popular and widespread that the best Spider-man movie, 2018’s Into the Spider-verse, introduced Miguel O’Hara as Spider-man 2099 in the post-credit scene, voiced by Oscar Isaac, and as soon as the character stepped into the Spider-verse, guess where he arrived… yup, into the 1967 animated series and this happened:

Then, when word came out that all three Spider-man actors, Tom Holland, Andrew Garfield and Toby Maguire were set to star in Spider-man: No Way Home after the movie saw Dr Strange’s botched spell crack open the multiverse, this meme started going around, having been tweaked for the new movie with three Spider-men and each wearing one of the movie suits:

Now, with the news that Spider-man: No Way Home is set for a digital release on March 22nd and physical release on April 12, the official social pages released a new image of Holland, Garfield and Maguire mimicking the famous meme and we love it!:

It feels like we have reached peak self-awareness with this image imitating a meme based on an image based on a cartoon.. honestly, it’s great and a lot of fun but it also feels like we might be living in a meme now. In fairness, it’s felt like that for a number of years now, so I’m not exactly complaining. But I am having an existential crisis.

Anyway, as we were.

Let me know what you think of the new image guys, I’d love to hear what you think and if you believe there’s anywhere else for it to go now… is there?

As well as the actual meme, we also have footage of the three stars during the photoshoot and, honestly, they couldn’t be any more adorable

Marc is a self-confessed nerd. Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
