Amy Pascal confirms live-action Miles Morales is coming! Along with Spider-woman and another Tom Holland entry

June 3rd, 2023 by Marc Comments

While we’re all still unpacking this week’s big release – and it doesn’t come any bigger – Spider-man: Across the Spider-verse, it seems that already Sony are looking at what’s next for Miles Morales (well, other than Beyond the Spider-verse which hits next March) and it seems it’s going to be pretty big and exciting.

Across the Spider-verse, while I’m not going to get into any spoilers, goes a long way at connecting the MCU and even Sony’s current Spider-man universe with Venom and Morbius leading the way and for some time now we’ve heard – and reported – that Sony has big, big plans for that world.

I reported way back in 202o that House MD and TRON star Olivia Wilde was in line to direct a Spider-woman live-action movie and it seems that’s still on the cards and that’s not all.

Spider-verse producer Amy Pascal teased at the new movie’s premiere that Spider-woman is still coming down the line as well as – yes! – live-action Miles Morales!

Fans have been crying out for years for a live-action Miles movie with Community and Solo: A Star Wars Story star Donald Glover in the title role but when Glover got too old for the role, he eventually appeared in the MCU as Aaron Davis,  Miles’ uncle and the villainous Prowler (although he never suited up in the MCU), but his appearance did tease that Miles existed within the MCU, although we suspect that with Tom Holland (more on him in a minute) currently playing Peter Parker/Spider-man in the MCU, we might see Miles in Sony’s universe instead – or at least first.

Pascal also said a fourth Spider-Man movie with Holland is in development but the Hollywood writers’ strike has put the brakes on for the time being: “Are we going to make another movie? Of course, we are,” she said.

Sony developing a Silk TV series set in their Spider-verse… and the MCU?

“We’re in the process, but the writers’ strike, nobody is working during the strike. We’re all being supporters and whenever they get themselves together, we’ll get started.”

On returning as Spidey, Holland said: “I think as long as we can do justice to Peter Parker, as long as we can keep elevating and making the films better and making them mean more, then I’ll be there.

“I’d be stupid to say that I wouldn’t be the luckiest kid alive if I got to do it again, there’s stuff going on, but we’ll have to just wait and see what happens.”

Spider-verse star Shameik Moore, who plays Miles, said at the premiere that he is ‘manifesting’ a live-action Miles… he’s too old to play Miles as a teen but if they decide to make him older in live-action, he’s certainly the man for the role:

Oh, and Moore also sai he would love for Miles to take on Tom Hardy’s Venom… is he hinting that this is planned down the line? After all, we know that Venom 3 is in development… could we be seeing Miles sooner than expected?

And, on a final note, kudos to Tom Holland who has said that the first Spider-verse movie is the best Spider-man movie ever made, a cool thing for a Spider-man actor to say, I thought: “I think the first ‘Spider-Verse’ movie is the best Spider-Man movie that’s ever been made,” he said. Fair play, lad.

Miles Morales returns for the next chapter of the Oscar®-winning Spider-Verse saga, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. After reuniting with Gwen Stacy, Brooklyn’s full-time, friendly neighbourhood Spider-Man is catapulted across the Multiverse, where he encounters a team of Spider-People charged with protecting its very existence. But when the heroes clash on how to handle a new threat, Miles finds himself pitted against the other Spiders and must redefine what it means to be a hero so he can save the people he loves most.

Phil Lord & Christopher Miller and David Callaham wrote the screenplay for the film, which features the voices of Shameik Moore, Hailee Steinfeld, Jake Johnson, Issa Rae, Daniel Kaluuya, Jason Schwartzman, Brian Tyree Henry, Luna Lauren Velez, Greta Lee, Rachel Dratch, Jorma Taccone, Shea Whigham and Oscar Isaac.

The film hits cinemas on 2nd June 2023.
