Ant-man and the Wasp star to play Red Sonya in new movie

May 6th, 2021 by Marc Comments

Could a move that has been stuck in production hell for what seems like forever finally be set to happen?

Red Sonya fans may recall that at the 2008 Comic-Con a Red Sonya movie poster, below, left, appeared with Scream star Rose McGowan in the lead role and Sin City’s Robert Rodriguez set to direct for a 2009 release.

Well, needless to say, that never happened and, to this day, the 1985 Brigitte Nielsen movie remains the last incarnation of the Conan the Barbarian character.

Well, that could be about to change as it’s just been revealed that Ant-man and the Wasp star Hannah John-Kamen has signed on to play the Roy Thomas and Barry Windsor-Smith created character. Amazon’s Transparent’s creator and showrunner, Joey Soloway will direct.

“Hannah is a very talented actress who we’ve been following for years and she IS Red Sonja,” Soloway said.

“Her range, sensibilities and strength are all qualities we have been looking for and we couldn’t be more excited to embark on this journey together.”

So… will she be dying her hair red? Only time will tell.

Directed by Joey Soloway, Red Sonja does not yet have a release date.
