We’ve known since Mad Max: Fury Road came out in 2015 that writer/director George Miller had planned more Max movies.
But one that got everyone’s attention was Furiousa, based around Charlize Theron’s breakout character in the movie. And while we all expected Theron to return to the role, we were a little surprised when we learned that the movie won’t – as expected – be a sequel but rather a prequel with a younger actress stepping into the now-iconic role.
And now, with the world in shutdown due to that damned virus ‘most executives [at Warner Bros] don’t expect things to get back to normal for several weeks, though a few are taking video and phone meetings as they try to game out films they hope to greenlight in the next 12 months. Director George Miller, for instance, has been meeting with names including Anya Taylor-Joy for his “Furiousa” spin-off, which he hopes to start shooting in 2021.’
It seems that Miller – via Skype! no less – has been talking to Glass and Split star Anya Taylor-Joy for the role and, honestly, I think that’s an inspired choice.
Now, this report isn’t saying she’s the only choice/frontrunner, but honestly, I’m a big fan of Joy and reckon she could nail it as a young Theron/Furiosa.
What say you all?
