We know the Flash movie has had a rough time so far, having lost two directors and numerous writers… in fact we should probably have seen it filming by now, however it proved difficult for Warner Bros to make it happen.
However, with Mel Gibson in talks for Suicide Squad 2 and Joss Whedon looking at doing a Batgirl movie, along with Nightwing, Gotham City Sirens, Green Lantern Corp and more on the schedule for the next few years, we have been hopeful that DC were pulling themselves together in a big way.
Don’t get us wrong, Man of Steel, Batman V Superman Ultimate Edition and Suicide Squad are among our favourite superhero moves, but public opinion has been rough on Warners/DC… so the latest rumour – if true – could continue their streak of exciting developments.
Screen Junkies (full video below) are claiming to have several sources that have confirmed that Back to the Future (I, II & III) and Who Framed Roger Rabbit director Robert Zemeckis could be eyeing up The Flash movie.
Now we know Zemeckis has had a few stinkers but his ratio of great to poor is impressive indeed with Forest Gump, Castaway, Contact, Flight and more also in there so the idea of him doing Flash is very, very exciting.
And we’d imagine The Flash will feature time travel given the hero’s abilities and there’s few in Hollywood (James Cameron?) who can create time travel tales like Zemeckis given that his Back to the Future movies remain THE definitive time travel tales.
Zemeckis also has a knack for infusing his movies with a sense of childlike awe and wonder so he would be a natural fit here too.
So far little is known about the talks that are taking place between the director and Warners/DC but it is reported that Zemeckis’ favourite hero is Flash and that he isn’t totally happy with the script and wants a crack at reworking some of it which apparently the studio is reluctant to do.
Whatever the outcome it means that the talent being sought for The Flash is the best there is and that fills us with great hope indeed.
