Benedict Cumberbatch talks Star Wars and Doctor Who… briefly

April 14th, 2014 by Marc Comments

FTN – and all of Geekdom – favourite Benedict Cumberbatch has thrown his hat in the ring regarding two big franchises fans though he would perhaps appear in…

Yes, Dark Horizons picked up on two very telling quotes from Cumberbatch at a Q&A in Sydney, Australia. At the session the actor was asked about the possibility of him being involved in Star Wars and/or Doctor Who, after all he has a relationship with Star Wars Episode VII director JJ Abrams after playing Kahn in Star Trek: Into Darkness and with Doctor Who front-runner Stephen Moffat who also looks after the BBC’s Sherlock starring Cumberbatch as the titular character.

On Star Wars: “I would’ve liked a part in JJ’s new Star Wars but it won’t happen sadly.”

And, continuing the bad news: “I’m never gonna play The Doctor, & nothing to do with the Whoniverse”

So, that’s that… but as we know, never is never never (!) in Hollywood, so don’t fret too much – afterall, Cumberbatch did say he wasn’t Kahn either…

Marc is a self-confessed nerd. Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
