Oooooooh… more big news from the world of Spider-man 3 in the MCU as a major Marvel name is set to appear and it opens all sorts of possibilities.
You’ll recall that last week we reported that Amazing Spider-man star Jamie Foxx was returning to the role of Electro for the upcoming movie too (here) which was unexpected as the last time he played the role, the movie was not commented to the MCU, so it had us – and others – wondering if this means we’re getting a multiverse of sorts.
Well, if there’s one person who could bring Tom Holland’s Spider-man into the Spider-verse it’s Doctor Strange and guess what? That’s exactly who will be coming into the next Spidey movie… Benedict Cumberbatch will be appearing as Steven Strange AKA Doctor Strange.
Word is he will fill the mentor role to Peter that Robert Downey Jnr played in the first two movies and the last two Avengers movies.
On top of this, we’re also hearing that Kristen Dunst, Mary Jane of the Sam Raimi Spider-man trilogy, and Dean DeHaan, Harry Osborn in The Amazing Spider-man 2, are both being sought for a future Marvel project – that’s a further two universes – and the project may not even be Spider-Man 3… does this mean that the multiverse rumours are true and Doctor Strange may meet them in his Into the Multiverse of Madness movie when he sees other realities?
Not only this but I’ve seen ideas online that the third Spider-man movie will see Tom Holland leave the MCU and head over to Sony’s Spider-man universe full time, leaving Miles Morales – who was mentioned in passing in Spider-man Homecoming – to take over the Spidey-sized hole in the MCU moving forward.
This could mean that we will have two Spider-men franchises happening at the same time which, while still connected, will be separate universes.
I’m ok with this, actually.
What say you all? Are you excited to see Dr Strange come into the MCU? Let me know…
Spider-man 3 is set for December 17th, 2021
