Bill & Ted Face The Music set for streaming rather than cinema release?

Bogus!

It looks like the third Bill & Ted movie, dubbed Face the Music, may be set to debut on streaming.

We’ve waited since 1991 but now it seems that we may get to see the third movie in the comfort of our own living room.

Now, don’t get me wrong, that doesn’t sound bad as I watch most things there these days, but Face the Music was one the ones I had in my ‘must see on the big screen’ diary.

In a new report about the struggle facing the movie industry in the current climate, and its struggle to get back to normality, entertainment research analyst Jeff Bock singles out the third Bill & Ted movie as a release likely to go to streaming as at this stage it’s unlikely it will hit its August release date:

“We just don’t know at this point what the world will look like in June and July, but what we do know is if studios are planning to release these films in theaters, they’d have to begin advertising them right now. That’s more money that they might be risking. That’s why some of these films make a lot of sense going straight to digital.”

We have already seen a number of movies debut on streaming instead of theatrically and others pushed back for months in the hope that this will – and it will – all blow over soon.

This is a sweet and sour deal for fans as many will enjoy sitting at home watching, while others would – I’m one of them – prefer to head out to make a night of it, but either way, I’d imagine there’s going to be a statement or more information about the movie soon as the movie is set to debut in three months and we’ve not seen footage or even a poster yet.

What say you all?

The stakes are higher than ever for the time-traveling exploits of William “Bill” S. Preston Esq. (Alex Winter) and Theodore “Ted” Logan (Keanu Reeves). Yet to fulfill their rock and roll destiny, the now middle aged best friends set out on a new adventure when a visitor from the future warns them that only their song can save life as we know it. Along the way, they will be helped by their daughters, a new batch of historical figures, and a few music legends — to seek the song that will set their world right and bring harmony in the universe.

Bill & Ted Face the Music is directed by Dean Parisot (Galaxy Quest), from a screenplay by Chris Matheson and Ed Solomon (Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure, Bill & Ted’s Bogus Journey) – and produced by Scott Kroopf, Alex Lebovici, and Steve Ponce.
