Black Manta and Orm stars confirm return for Aquaman 2

November 20th, 2019 by Geralt of Australia Comments

With DC and Warner Brothers’ astounding success with Shazam! and Joker it’s easy to guess that they’re on the rise, but speculation still surrounds a lot of DC’s other works such as Aquaman.

Even though it grossed over $1 billion  in the box office, it’s still taken a while to get the sequel on track with star Jason Momoa busy protesting in Hawaii and other cast members busy with other work.

But now Aquaman actor Yahya Abdul-Mateen (above) has shed some light on what’s happening.

Yahya, who has more recently been in the Watchmen TV series, played Black Manta in the hit movie, one of the main villains in the Aquaman franchise, and, when asked if he would be making a return to the sequel, he had some interesting things to say: “Aquaman 2 is happening! It is happening, and we can look for that, I believe, in 2022, so I’m excited to be part of that. Black Manta will be back, and hopefully, he’ll be causing a lot more trouble than he did in the first one.”

On top of this, Orm – former king and half-both of Arthr Curry AKA Aquaman – star Patrick Wilson as has also revealed that he is returning: “I’m slightly briefed [on Orm-related matters]. I just throw a little dart here and there. I’ll say, ‘So, what about this?’ and [James Wan will] say, ‘Well, this is what I’m thinking.’”

As for director James Wan’s vision for the high-concept sequel, Wilson added: “I can tell you that even his concepts for Aquaman 2 are pushing it even further. I have a few ideas of where Orm fits in, but I’m not gonna talk about them.”

Aquaman himself, Jason Momoa has also talked about the movie recently saying this time he’s a lot more hands on with the creative process, pitching a full story from start to finish and they loved it: “I was really, really, really, passionate, to do the second one because it’s the first time where it’s all on Earth. It’s combining land and sea, kind of like what I’m doing with this environmental cause. There’s no outside aliens destroying Earth, it’s us. And so I was excited to get back in there, and so I’ve been working with our previous writer, and getting in there, and we’ve got a locked story, and we’re getting into it.”

If all goes well, Aquaman 2 has a scheduled release on December 16 2022 so stay tuned for more updates on the king of Atlantis. Stay nerdy folks.
