Black Panther and Spider-Man: Into The Spider-verse set for Oscar glory?

January 22nd, 2019 by Marc Comments

Well, we suspected it would happen and here we are… Black Panther is up for a Best Picture nomination next month at the Oscars.

Not to undermine how important the movie is – it is unquestionably a big step forward in representation – but the movie, well, just isn’t that good. This may not be popular, but we calls it as we sees it.

The movie is up for a total of seven Oscars.

Much more deserved, however, is Spider-man: Into The Spider-verse’s nomination for best animated movie – given the SFX in Black Panther (also up for an Oscar. No, really), perhaps it would have been better in the best animated feature category too?

Look, Black Panther is a good movie, but it’s an average Marvel entry and, on that merit alone, as it should be judged, the movie  does not deserve the nomination when it’s standing against movies like BlacKkKlansman and The Favourite.

But hey, what do we know?

Marc is a self-confessed nerd. Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
