BREAKING: JJ Abrams is back to write and direct Star Wars Episode IX

September 12th, 2017 by Marc Comments

After the speculation and fan casting, it looks like we have the director for Star Wars: Episode IX.

While fans had gone for David Lynch, Guillermo Deltoro and George Lucas to name a few, the sage money was on either Episode VII director JJ Abrams returning or Episode VIII’s Rian Johnson (here).

And now we know who will get the gig… Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens’ JJ Abrams is back to close the current trilogy by directing and co-writing with Chris Terrio.

The official Star Wars site reported earlier:

J.J. Abrams, who launched a new era of Star Wars with The Force Awakens in 2015, is returning to complete the sequel trilogy as writer and director of Star Wars: Episode IX. Abrams will co-write the film with Chris Terrio. Star Wars: Episode IX will be produced by Kathleen Kennedy, Michelle Rejwan, Abrams, Bad Robot, and Lucasfilm.

“With The Force Awakens, J.J. delivered everything we could have possibly hoped for, and I am so excited that he is coming back to close out this trilogy,” said Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy.

Marc is a self-confessed nerd. Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
