Strap yourself in, Deadites, because we have some groovy news…
We know that after the success of Evil Dead Rise, the future of the horror series was looking very secure with more movies, shared universes and spinoffs looking likely, however, the sad news was that the man who was the face of the series, Bruce Campbell, Ash Williams, was not likely to return as he had previously announced his retirement (although he had also several times hinted at his return too, so…) but now it seems that, whatever happens, we’re getting more Ash Willaims.
In a recent interview, the star revealed that the franchise was heading back to the small screen (after 2015’s brilliant Ash Vs Evil Dead) only this time it would be animated.
Bruce Campbell says there’s loads more Evil Dead coming as new spinoff is announced
“We are developing an animated version, like a series,” the star said, “I’ll do that. I’ll do Ash’s voice all day long because my voice hasn’t aged as much as I have.”
Seeming to relish on the perceived freedom this will give both him and the character, he went on: “We’re out of the cabin, Sam [Raimi] doesn’t have to direct, I don’t have to star as Ash… the trick is to take the elements that people like, which is innocent people being tortured by a malicious entity, and it’s people who have no skills to stop it.”
He also confirmed that the next two Evil Dead live-action movies seem to be confirmed as happening now: “The future [of Evil Dead] is two more damn movies,” he said.
“We’ve got two new fabulous directors that have two new scripts in the shoot, and we think we’ve suckered a studio into coughing up the dough for both, since they seem to still make money.”
While not starring in the live-action movies, Campbell is a producer on the franchise.
I’m a big fan of the Evil Dead series and loved the last two movies but I must say, if given the choice, I would always take an Evil Dead adventure led by Campbell bi it live-action or animated.
What about you all? Let me know, guys…
Not just one but two new Evil Dead movies have writers and directors attached
