Chris Evans joining cast of Little Shop of Horrors remake

So my feelings on this new take on the iconic Little Shop of Horrors is that the studio should quit and give the classic – and definitive – 80s version a re-release.

But, with at said, it looks like the new movie from the Arrowverse’s Greg Belanti – and Warner Bros –  is coming close to nailing down its final cast and it, well, it’s… certainly a cast.

The 80s movie from director Frank Oz saw down on his luck plant shop worker Seymour Krelborn – played by Rick Moranis – stumbled across and alien plant which he dubbed Audrey II (voiced by the great Levi Stubbs), after the girl of his dream, Audrey (played by Ellen Greene); however standing in his way from getting everything he wants is the deliciously evil Dentist Orin Scrivello played in what I consider to be a career best by Steve Martin.

Now, it looks like we’re close to getting our new Seymour, Audrey and Orin in the form of Rocketman star Taron Egerton (we know he can sing at least), fan favourite Scarlett Johansson and, most surprising of all, Chris Evans as the big bad of the piece – well, after Audrey II (who will be voiced by Pose star Billy Porter who has definitely got the voice for the gig (here)).

Honeslty, to me Edgerton and Johansson are just too, well, pretty to play Seymour and Audrey because these characters, to me, represent the every man/woman and neither have money, luck or looks, but are simply surviving day-to-day until the arrival of Audrey II changes everything.

That said, after his devilish turn in Knives Out last year, Evans may just have an evil dentist in him…

What say you all? I wanna hear those thoughts…

Marc is a self-confessed nerd. Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
