It looks like the fourth Cloverfield movie is still coming after all and, yay!, it’s a direct sequel to Matt Reeves’ 2008 classic monster movie.
In a new interview at the premiere of his new movie, Hallow Road, Babak Anvari confirmed he is directing and it’s going to be pretty special.
Askied if he can give any details on the new movie, Anvari said: “So sad that I cannot because everyone on that team is very secretive, which I understand
“But whatever happens, just know that hopefully you’re going to get something amazing.”
He also said that his excitement level was pretty ‘high’ for the new movie.
This comes on the heels of Reeves’ finally confirming what the original monster was in his movie.
The original Cloverfield was one of the first movies to really use the internet and viral marketing, creating a web of lore that is still being explored to this day – from deep sea projects to weird drinks, it’s a massive world before you even hit play on the movie, but one of the biggest mysteries was what exactly was the monster.
In the movie there’s a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it detail in the background that looks like something massive coming into earth’s atmosphere and crashing into the water, where the monster later comes from, leading many fans to speculate that the creature itself is alien.
Well, now it’s confirmed. speaking to Syfy, Reeves confirmed that that scene is indeed the creature arriving on earth and that yes, it is an alien: “The reason the monster was freaking out is that they were having fits based on looking for their mother. And so, [the monster] was just as afraid as the main characters.”
He explains that the creature was separated from its mother who is still out there in space somewhere… could this perhaps be what we’re going to see in the direct sequel? Is mother going to come looking for her kid?
Whatever it is, as much as I liked the other two movies, it will be great to dip back into the world of the first movie and see what exactly happened next.
Thoughts? I wanna hear them all!
