A live action Akira movie has been in the works for a long as FTN has been in existence, with the latest story being in June this year (here), but now we’re hearing a new rumour that has us very interested as it finally sounds like maybe, just maybe, Akira might be done justice…

Word on the nerd-vine is that Warner Bros are planning a new Akira live-action trilogy with The Dark Knight’s Christopher Nolan involved.

Warner Bros have the rights to Katsuhiro Otomo’s manga since 2002 and numerous times it has almost happened… but this is a new approach. If it’s true, of course.

DenOfGeek are reporting: “We’ve now heard from a source close to Warner Bros. that the studio is planning to make a trilogy of films based on Akira – all the better to do justice to Otomo’s sprawling dystopian sci-fi yarn, perhaps.

“Most intriguingly of all, we’re told that Christopher Nolan has met with a previously attached filmmaker (who we can’t name here) within the past three months to talk about the project.”

Now, what exact role Nolan would play is unknown, but is it optimistic to put this rumour together with the story from late last week that Nolan’s next movie is a big secret and will come out in July 2017 (here)?

What say you all? While we love the pure, manga Akira, the idea of Nolan being involved in, or helming, Akira – a trilogy of Akira, ever better – is certainly a tantalising one.

Are we putting two and two together here and getting 15?! Let us know…
