OK, so by now we’ve all heard the rumours that Sherlock himself, Benedict Cumberbatch, is a favourite for a part in Star Wars Episode VII (A New Dawn?), but then he denied it… but, as with any good rumour, his denial by no means ends the chatter.
Cumberbatch was interviewed by The Telegraph’s John Hiscock at the premiere of The Fifth Estate and the question came up again and this time he wasn’t so open and shut and he even may have confirmed what we all but know already: “Of course I’d love to do Star Wars and work with JJ Abrams again because we had such a good time on Star Trek,” he said.
Fair enough. But then he added: “But nobody has been cast and there are no offers out to anyone apart from the regulars who are returning. So that’s that rumour quashed. We’ll have to wait and see.”
So this time he doesn’t totally deny it and as we all know, ‘we’ll have to wait and see’ is often as close as we come to a yes before the official announcement. However, personally I’m more intrigued by the ‘regulars’ of which he speaks… surely that must be the three principals Ford, Hamil and Fisher?
Any day now we’re going to hear something big… and personally, I’m walking on tender hooks in anticipation.
May the Force be with you… always
