It seems that Dan Aykroyd is set to finally finish his Blues Brothers trilogy… just not how we expected.
Following on from the 1980 classic The Blues Brothers and the far-from classic 1998 Blues Brothers 2000 which saw John Goodman step up as Mighty Mack McTeer, replacing the late John Belushi, the new story will be a graphic novel and from Z2 Comics called The Blues Brothers: The Escape of Joliet Jake.
The graphic novel ‘tells the continued adventures of “Joliet” Jake Blues and his brother Elwood, the characters brought to life by the late John Belushi and Aykroyd,’ reveals THR.

‘Set two decades after the events of the film, The Escape of Joliet Jake focuses on Elwood teaming up with an upstart detective after Jake breaks out of jail.’
The story is written by Stella Aykroyd, Luke Pisano and James Werner with artist Felipe Sobriero. Reportedly, Belushi’s widow, Judy Belushi Pisano, was involved before her death during the book’s production.

“This graphic novel keeps the spirit of the Blues Brothers alive; mischievous recidivists, musical outlaws who above everything, care about the Blues. The quest for the Briefcase, full of unearthed lyrics and music from the greats, is an honorable Grail,” says Aykroyd.
I love the original movie, I hate the sequel, so I’m on the fence about this book… but I’ll certainly give it a chance because more Jake and Elwood, heck, more Aykroyd, is always a good thing.
Thoughts? I know you have them and I wann hear ’em.
