The third movie in the 28 Days Later series is moving along at a jaunty rate with the original creatives returning.
Yes, the director and writer of the first movie, Danny Boyle and Alex Garland respectively, are back for the rumoured 28 Years Later and now it seems that the original movie’s star Cillian Murphy, who is up for an Oscar for his lead performance in Oppenheimer, is attached to produce and possibly even star.

The first 2002 movie saw Murphy’s Jim waking up in a London that was overrun with zombies; in the sequel, 28 Weeks Later, a whole new cast appeared to survive the apocalypse further down the line, led by Jeremy Renner and Rose Byrne – it was always assumed that the next movie would be 28 Months Later but it seems we’re jumping down the line to 28 Years Later… at this stage we’re 22 years down the line in real-time, so it’s not that big a leap and by the time the movie happens, it’s probably going to be on the money.
The new movie will have a sequel and is even touted as a possible trilogy but Boyle and Garland are only confirmed for the first movie at this early stage with each movie having a budget of $60m.

Murphy’s involvement is only confirmed as a producer but I have feeling that we might see him returning as Jim… having that story picked up all these years later would be an interesting proposition; what happens after the end? Are the zombies still a threat or is there a more existential crisis now? I love the first movie and liked the sequel is solid too, so I’m definitely on board for these sequels.
