Blade Runner 2 director Denis Villeneuve has revealed he’d love to helm an adaptation of the Frank Herbert novel Dune.
Currently doing the press rounds for his new sci-fi picture Arrival, Villeneuve told Variety that he loves the genre in general but Dune in particular. The sci-fi epic was famously first made into a motion picture by David Lynch back in the early 1980’s (see above).
“I’m always looking for sci-fi material, and it’s difficult to find original and strong material that’s not just about weaponry” he said. “A longstanding dream of mine is to adapt Dune, but it’s a long process to get the rights, and I don’t think I will succeed.”
Villeneuve is currently hard at work on Blade Runner 2 but also revealed that he has other sci-fi stories in mind for future projects.
“I have two [sci-fi] projects right now that are in very stages. It’s too early to talk about them,” he added.
Arrival is released on November 11, while Blade Runner 2 is scheduled for October 6, 2017.
