Oooooh…. could director Antoine Fuqua be in line for a Marvel movie and, even better, could it be Blade?
The director spoke to HeyUGuys (below) and dropped the fun little tease: “I might have a meeting with Kevin soon.”
Now, we know that ‘Kevin’ is Marvel boss Kevin Feige and, given that Marvel are moving towards female directors for female-led roles, black directors for black hero movies – Ryan Coogler is expected to return for Black Panther 2 – it would make sense that, should Fuqua have the meeting, then Blade could be the movie he’s interested in.
We know he’s interested in the vampire side of the Marvel universe and we know that Disney/Marvel own the rights to Blade again.
“As a kid I grew up with comic books. They talked to me about Black Panther years ago, way back in the day. There’s some reason they came up and they talked to me about at Sony, a Marvel character, Morbius [The Living Vampire]…that kinda came up. I don’t know, I have a thirteen-year-old son so I’m watching more of that again and it’s exciting to do that. I’d love to create a new one. Y’know, something that’s closer to what I get excited about,” Fuqua told JoBlo last year.
With him currently lined up to direct the Scarface reboot no matter what will happen it’ll be a while before he does anything.
