Director Gunn talks Thanos’ role in Guardians of the Galaxy movie

November 6th, 2013 by Marc 1 Comment

Ok, that’s Thor out of the way… what’s next? Oh yeah Captain America: The Winter Soldier… but what’s next after that?

Well, let’s not forget about Guardians of the Galaxy. Superherohype have been reporting on director James Gunn’s comments on the movie and, more importantly, what role Thanos will play in it. SPOILERS We know from Thor: The Dark World that the quest for Thanos’ weapon, The Infinity Gauntlet, is under way, but what of the monster himself? SPOILERS END

Well, according to Gunn: “Thanos is a character in our movie. He works with Ronan (The Accuser). In my movie Ronan (pictured below) works for Thanos, and Ronan is the main bad guy in our film.”

Ronan is played by Lee Pace, although no actor for Thanos has been announced.

On the movie itself and the practical vs CGI effects, Gunn said:  “Our sets are enormous. Anybody who knows me knows I really love the mix of practical and CGI effects and I carried that over into this movie. We have tons and tons of practical effects… I can’t wait for people to see it because it’s astoundingly beautiful.”

The full interview is below, but if you haven’t seen Thor: The Dark World yet you might want to approach with caution…

Guardians of the Galaxy hits on July 31, 2014

Marc is a self-confessed nerd. Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
