Disney Investor Day 2020: Trailers and news about all the Marvel movies and Disney+ shows including Fantastic 4 and Secret Invasion!

December 12th, 2020 by Marc Comments

One of the two big parts of the Disney Investor Day 2020 was the Marvel line-up and, well, it was a mixed bag, really.

The biggest news probably of the night was that, once he’s finished directing the upcoming third Spider-man movie, Jon Watts is the man set to finally bring the Fantastic Four home and put them in the MCU.

We learned too that Peyton Reed will return for the third Ant-man movie, entitled Ant-man and the Wasp: Quantumania which will see the whole original cast return – Paul Rudd, Evangeline Lily, Michael Douglas and Michelle Pfeiffer – with Cassie being played by a new actress (again), this time with Freaky star Kathryn Newton along with the previously announced Jonathan Majors as Kang the Conqueror (who has an interesting connection to the Fantastic Four, coincidentally).

Rachel McAdams is back for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, set for March 25th, 2022 and Jaimie Alexander will reprise her role as Lady Sif in Thor: Love and Thunder. We also learned that Christian Bale will play the villain Gorr the God Butcher in Thor: Love and Thunder, set for release on May 6th, 2022.

In other exciting news, Tim Roth will return as Abomination who he played in the Edward Norton Hulk movie (and was referred to in Agents of SHIELD), so that’s cool. Oh, and, as expected, Mark Ruffalo returns as Hulk/Bruce Banner in the She-Hulk series starring Tatiana Maslany on Disney+.

We learned Blade is a movie… we weren’t sure before now in what format we would see Mahershala Ali’s Day Walker appear, but now we do. Cool.

Nia DaCosta will direct Brie Larson as Carol Danvers in Captain Marvel 2, set for November 11th, 2022. Also starring will be Teyonah Parris as the grown-up Monica Rambeau reprising her role from WandaVision (she’s in the trailer for that series below) and Iman Vellani returns as Ms Marvel – she’s currently filming in the Ms Marvel Disney+ series.

Adding to this, Marvel boss Kevin Feige revealed Xochitl Gomez is America Chavez and that WandaVision connects directly to Spider-Man 3 and Doctor Strange 2 –  a multiverse trilogy of sorts, it seems.

Black Panther II will arrive on July 8th, 2022 and it has been confirmed that T’Challa will not be recast after the tragic death of Chadwick Boseman earlier this year. Ryan Coogler will return to direct.

On the small screen front, we got several new shows…

First up was Secret Invasion, the Samuel L Jackson series we reported on earlier this year, which sees Jackson back as Nick Fury and Ben Mendelsohn as the Skrull Talos. Yes!

Armor Wars will see Don Cheadle back as James Rhodes/War Machine and it will see Tony Stark’s worse nightmare come true as Stark Tek falls into the wrong hands.

Next, Dominique Thorne will step up in Ironheart as comic character Riri Williams, who creates the most advanced suit of armour the world has seen since the death of Tony Stark… could this tie into Armor Wars?

I Am Groot is a series of shorts (animated?) featuring Baby Groot and new characters. As well as this, James Gunn will write and direct The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special which will hit the service in 2022 – is it animated or live-action? We’re not sure but we know it’s a riff on the semi-iconic Star Wars Holiday Special.

As we see below, we got a sizle reel for the Disney+ Ms Marvel series currently in production (bottom) as well as new trailers for WandaVision, due on January 15th, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier due in March – presumably immediately after WandaVision ends and then following that in May is Loki. What If…? s due later in the summer, presumably when Loki finishes airing.

Marc is a self-confessed nerd. Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
