More John Wick news?! Yes, please!

Action legend Donnie Yen, who appeared in John Wick Chapter 4 as blind assassin Caine – the absolute highlight of that movie by the way, I said what I said – has been talking about the spin-off based on the character and the big plans he has for it.

While promoting his new movie The Prosecutor, the star confirmed he’s returning as Caine and not only that, he hopes to be behind the camera, directing it: “I think both the fans, as well as the studio, want this to happen, and we’ll see. I don’t know, I can only tell you that much. But yes, we are talking, and we are talking intimately. We’ll see what happens.”

When he says he’s talking about it, he means with Chad Stahelski, the overseer of the John Wick universe: “But at the same time, I hold responsibility as well as a pressure that I don’t want to ruin the franchise,” he goes on, adding: “I try to do my best to bring something fresh to the franchise itself. I don’t want to bring down the expectations for the fans. I try to do my best, like always.”

Yen, while known as an action star, is no stranger to directing big-screen action with The Prosecutor being his latest and other classics like Tiger Cage and Legend of the Wolf under his belt, so he’s certainly fit to direct a John Wick Universe movie, I’d say.

The star also revealed that he is heavily involved in the movie – and character’s – development: “I have a couple of ideas in my mind of how I would like the story to go. But we’ll see. I don’t want to give away too much because I don’t know if I’m in that position to give that away. But they’ve been very persistent, and they’ve been very passionate about me taking on this project.”

Look, I never need an excuse to go see a Donnie Yen movie – I’m still waiting for his Rogue One spin-off, Disney! – but having him returning as Caine is just the icing on the cake.

Thoughts? Let me hear them!
