Downey Jr wants Mel Gibson and Jodie Foster in the Marvel movie-verse?

January 3rd, 2014 by Marc Comments

It’s pretty well known that before Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, Robert Downey Jr was not a very bankable celebrity, but now that he is one of the world’s biggest stars, he seems to want to spread the love.

According to Screenrant:  “A key to RDJ’s recovery was his support group, namely his wife Susan Downey, and his friends in Hollywood. Two of those friends, Mel Gibson and Jodie Foster, were present in 2011 when Robert Downey Jr. received the prestigious American Cinematheque Award, an honor presented annually to “an extraordinary artist currently making a significant contribution to the art of the Moving Picture.” Now, RDJ wants to return the favor and have Gibson and Foster join the Marvel Cinematic Universe with appearances in The Avengers: Age of Ultron or its untitled followup, the last two films on his extended contract.”

Could this be in response to Warners/DC touting names like Denzel Washington, Jaoquin Pheonix and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson in Batman Vs Superman? Maybe. But we doubt it.

The original rumour was that Downey Jr was trying to get Gibson cast as the president in Iron Man 3 but Marvel weren’t keen, but Downey Jr recently said of Gibson when the pair were on stage in 2011 for his acceptance of The American Cinematheque Award (pictured above): “Unless you are without sin – and if you are, you are in the wrong f@#king industry – you should forgive him and let him work.”

So, what do you guys reckon? Could this happen? After all, it’s believed that he got Shane Black the Iron Man 3 gig and he’s bound to have some pull at the studio now. And if it did happen, who could you see Gibson and Foster playing?

Marc is a self-confessed nerd. Ever since seeing Star Wars for the first time around 1979 he’s been an unapologetic fan of the Wars and still believes, with Clone Wars and now Underworld, we are yet to see the best Star Wars. He’s a dad of two who now doesn’t have the time (or money) to collect the amount of toys, comics, movies and books he once did, much to the relief of his long-suffering wife. In the real world he’s a graphic designer. He started Following the Nerd because he was tired of searching a million sites every day for all the best news that he loves and decided to create one place where you can go to get the whole lot. Secretly he longs to be sitting in the cockpit of his YT-1300 Corellian Transport ship with his co-pilot Chewie, roaming the universe, waiting for his next big adventure, but feels just at home watching cartoons with his kids….
