After the little gem that was Shazam! DC/Warners seem keen to get the ball rolling with the sequel/spin-off Black Adam movie starring none other than the movie-making machine that is The Rock, sorry, Dwayne Johnson and now it looks like a director is on board.
Non-Stop, Run All Night, The Shallows and Johnson starring Jungle Cruise director Jaume Collet-Serra is in talks to direct the movie written by Rampage scribe Adam Sztykiel.
Adam is one of DC’s richest anti-heroes and often locks horns with Shazam! and Superman and originally he was to be the villain in the Shazam! movie before it was decided that the character deserves – if not needs – his own movie.
While Shazam! didn’t exactly break box-office number making $362.7 million worldwide, a sequel is already in the works and the fans – myself included – very much fell involve with the whole cast and the movie in general, so Johnson’ star power can only make Shazam!’s bankability more attractive with the two no doubt eventually set to meet on screen… and part of me still hopes Cavill will meet him as Superman too.
That’s all the details so far, but a director attached likely means the movie could be set for a 2021 release.
The sooner the better, I say.
