Everyone relax, Joss Whedon is still working on directing the Batgirl movie…

November 24th, 2017 by Marc Comments

So last night, as some of you may know, a rumour hit the internet that Joss Whedon, the man responsible for Buffy, Angel and Firefly, as well as director of both Avengers movies, was no longer attached to the upcoming Batgirl movie.

Whedon, you see, had finished off Justice League after Zack Snyder had to leave due to a family tragedy.

And, since part of the reason Whedon came into the DC/Warners fold was so he could make a Batgirl movie, we figure if this was true there’s some serious issues behind the scenes.

And so, while we didn’t report it as we figured we’d give it time to breathe first, many sites did, creating all sorts of speculation – Whedon walked due to the reception of JL, Warners got rid of him for similar reasons or perhaps after his begin accused of cheating on his wife with a Buffy actress, the studio didn’t want that sort of hassle in light of the whole Harvey Weinstein debacle going on at the minute. He also got in trouble for liking a tweet saying Steppenwolf was a crap villain and so some believed it was because of that… however, it seems none of this is true.

Thankfully.

In fact, sites were ordered to remove the rumours by Warners themselves:

Now, however, while the statement hasn’t actually happened, a new (hopefully) reliable report is saying that there’s nothing to worry about…

Sources close to the Batgirl production say that The Avengers director is currently at work on the script and remains attached to direct as well. Of course, things could change — top talents get replaced on projects all the time. But as of now, as Dr. Horrible might say, the status is quo.

The untitled Batgirl movie is based on the Batgirl story that was first unveiled in DC Comics in 1967. One has to expect there was some new optimism about the project after the breakout success of Wonder Woman.

So there you have it… move along, nothing to see here. Hopefully.

Let us know your thoughts.
