It looks like the Planet of the Apes franchise is getting another reboot.
Or maybe not. It’s not entirely clear right now.
What we do know is that in 2024 we had Kingdom Of The Planet Of The Apes and as far as we knew, a new movie in the series was coming.
Flashforward to now, and it’s been announced that Fantastic Four: First Steps director Matt Shakman will direct a new Planet of the Apes entry, but here’s the confusing part: while we don’t know what the story is, we now know it’s not a sequel to the new Apes mythology but will take place on a world where the apes are the dominant species. So… a sequel? Or is it a reboot?

Adding more confusion, although I think he thought he was clearing thigs up, Steve Asbell, president of 20th Century Studios, said of the new project and if it’s a sequel: “I guess it depends on how you define ‘continuation’.”
Wut?
My money is on it being not a sequel but a story set in the same world as the current Planet of the Apes series although what I would love to see is a more faithful adaptation of the classic Planet of the Apes movies/series, with humans from today – if you’re a fan, you’ll know this was already set up in 2011’s Rise of the Planet of the Apes – why not go full sci-fi and expand this new world wide open.
I’d be here for that.
Anyways, as and when new news breaks, you know I will have it covered.
So, a new Planet of the Apes movie: thoughts? I know you have them, and I wanna hear ’em all.
