All change in the Fast and Furious world in the last couple of days, it seems…
Despite already having a release date of April 19th, 2019, it seems the ninth Fast and Furious movie will now not be released until April 10th, 2020 according to Universal Studios.
We’d imagine this means the tenth movie will be pushed back from April 2nd, 2021, but there’s no word on that yet.
So far it’s unclear if Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson is set to appear after things got a bit heated between he and Vin Diesel over the spin-off planned starring Johnson and Jason Statham (here) – more on that in a minute.
So what push it back?
Well…
The spin-off starring Johnson and Statham has been confirmed and seems to have (sort of) replaced it.
Yes, the spinoff has been given a release date of July 26th, 2019, and is developing the film as a starring vehicle for Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham.
The movie will see the actors return as special agent Luke Hobbs and disgraced ex-special forces’ agent Deckard Shaw and the rumour – although unconfirmed – is that they will go after Charlise Theron’s villain from Fast and Furious 8, Cypher. This is unconfirmed as of yet though.
And if all that awesome isn’t enough, it seems Shane Black is being sought to direct. The man behind Iron Man 3, The Nice Guys and the upcoming The Predator? Man, we’d take that in a heartbeat…
