We reported last week that the ‘feud’ between Fast and Furious 8/Fate of the Furious stars Vin Diesel and Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson was actually a real thing.
We were surprised way back last year when The Rock said: “Some conduct themselves as stand-up men and true professionals, while others don’t. The ones that don’t are too chicken s— to do anything about it anyway. Candy asses. When you watch this movie next April and it seems like I’m not acting in some of these scenes and my blood is legit boiling — you’re right.”
It was reported that this was abut Diesel whose behaviour on the movie was reportedly very bad, however it was soon brushed aside as a publicity stunt.
However with the news last week that the feud was real, Diesel came out and dismissed it all, saying of The Rock: “I don’t think the world really realizes how close we are, in a weird way. I think some things may be blown out of proportion. I don’t think that was his intention. I know he appreciates how much I work this franchise. In my house, he’s Uncle Dwayne.”
But now new reports are hinting at an issue Diesel had with the movie… he felt threatened by the chemistry between The Rock and (fairly) new addition to the cast, Jason Statham as Hobbs and Deckard
Reports are that Diesel, as producer of the franchise, didn’t like how well the duo were working together in the movie, and especially wasn’t happy about one scene that we may now never see – an after credits scene featuring the two and, word is, it may have been hinting at a spinoff possibility for Hobbs and Deckard.
“They had early screenings where Johnson and Statham popped so much on-screen together that they were looking at doing a spinoff,” goes the rumour.
Apparently the movie’s producer Neal Moritz filmed the scene without the go ahead from Diesel and the scene was attached to copies of Fast 8 which were ready to be sent to cinemas.
However, when Diesel heard about the scene he contacted Universal and, whatever he said, the copies were all recalled and the scene removed.
Is this all true? We may never know but given the rumours we’re hearing of Johnson and Diesel being at odds during the movie’s production, we reckon it had to be over something. Could it be this?
