“Suddenly Seymour is standing beside me!”
It looks like the Little Shop of Horrors reboot has got some serious talent behind it now as legendary filmmakers Joe Dante and Roger Corman are teaming up to bring us Little Shop of Halloween Horrors!
The movie is set to be directed by Dante, director of Gremlins 2: The New Batch and The Howling and written by Gremlins 2: The New Batch writer Charles S Haas with Corman, who directed the original 1960 Little Shop of Horrors movie, on producing duties.
While most will likely be more familiar with the 1980s musical version directed by Frank Oz and starring Rick Moranis and Steve Martin, this time around the new movie – which may or may not be a musical – is hoped to kick start a franchise, although how that will work is not clear right now, although in the Oz version a deleted ending had the killer plants taking over the world, so perhaps it will follow that storyline? A post-apocalyptic take on Little Shop would certainly have my attention and interest.
Corman’s original movie in 1960 was made in two days and one night as he was allowed to use the sets of his previous movie, A Bucket of Blood, but it wasn’t until it became a musical in 1982 and then was adapted by Oz that the story of killer alien plant Audrey 2 became really well known.
Oz’s version is one of my all-time favorite musicals, so I’m certainly interested in this movie and Dante and Corman’s involvement seems like a good fit for the source material but I’m still skeptical… but I would love to be proved wrong.
Thoughts? I want to hear them, gang…
