FIRST LOOK: Check out this image from Denis Villeneuve’s Dune UPDATED: New images added

Well, we finally have our first official look at Denis Villeneuve’s upcoming – and highly, highly anticiapted – Dune movie.

The movie, based on Frank Herbert’s iconic and timeless book series, features a second-to-none cast of talent and now we have our first look at star – and main protagonist – Timothée Chalamet As Paul Atreides thanks to Vanity Fair.

In the image below Atreides stands on the shores of his native planet of Caladan as transport ships descend to take him, his father Duke Leto Atreides (Oscar Isaac) and mother Lady Jessica (Rebecca Ferguson) to the desolate desert planet of Arrakis.

On the character, Chalamet said:  “The immediately appealing thing about Paul was the fact that in a story of such detail and scale and world-building, the protagonist is on an anti-hero’s-journey of sorts.

He thinks he’s going to be sort of a young general studying his father and his leadership of a fighting force before he comes of age, hopefully a decade later, or something like that.”

The image itself isn’t the most dramatic, but I have the feeling it’s only the first of many to come and, perhaps, a trailer is on the horizon? Let’s hope this manages to stay the distance and makes the December release.

A mythic and emotionally charged hero’s journey, Dune tells the story of Paul Atreides, a brilliant and gifted young man born into a great destiny beyond his understanding, who must travel to the most dangerous planet in the universe to ensure the future of his family and his people. As malevolent forces explode into conflict over the planet’s exclusive supply of the most precious resource in existence—a commodity capable of unlocking humanity’s greatest potential—only those who can conquer their fear will survive.

UPDATE: New images have been released earlier today – Check out your first look at characters including Chani (Zendaya), Duke Leto Atreides (Oscar Isaac), Lady Jessica Atreides (Rebecca Ferguson), Gurney Halleck (Josh Brolin), Duncan Idaho (Jason Momoa) and Liet Kynes (Sharon Duncan-Brewster) down below.
