It looks like someone really wants some of that Marvel/MCU pie…
Yes, FOX, owners of the X-Men movie franchise, have announced not one, not two but three big movies for next year.
The studio announced new release dates for the next installments of the X-Men cinematic universe: Josh Boone’s New Mutants is scheduled for April 13, 2018, Deadpool 2 will now bow June 1, 2018, and Dark Phoenix will hit theaters on November 2, 2018.
So plenty of X-Rated fun next year, then.
Sorry.
Anyway, The Dark Phoenix one if the most interesting as FOX already tackled that story in X3 but it was, well, let’s be honest, pretty bad, so it looks like they want to try again.
We know that Bryan Singer, who has helmed several of the X-Men movies, was meant to make X3 back in the day but the studio fired him because he directed Superman Returns. The director has previously said: “I know X-Men 3 was quite rushed and I didn’t complete it, and I felt a little like it was probably my responsibility to do that as a filmmaker, and I didn’t.”
Perhaps we’ll finally get the Singer version of the Dark Phoenix story next year… whatever happens, we’ll get the Deadpool sequel, the Phoenix movie AND an all-new X-Men franchise starter with the New Mutants.
Busy year.
