Frank Grillo says Marvel are finished with Crossbones… but he will be in What If…?

One of the coolest villains in the MCU but one underused was Frank Grillo’s Brock Rumlow AKA Crossbones who first appeared in Captain America: The Winter Soldier and then bowed out in Captain America: Civil War – although he did appear in Avengers: Endgame when events of Civil War were revisited.

However, it now seems that he will not be returning to the MCU in any live-action way again.

“They’re done with me,” Grillo has said.

“Because of the way the stories wound up being told and just how big the stories became, the Crossbones of it wasn’t really part of the future of the Avengers.”

Likely because of the way Crossbones was tied to Captain America in the movies and with Chris Evans now stepped down (or has he?), means Crossbones’ story is more or less done. But what about Disney+?

“I would love to do that just because I have never seen a character be on the screen so little and yet have such a fan following,” the star says, “I scratch my head with it sometimes. I have a great relationship with Marvel and the guys there, but why didn’t they, even if it wasn’t with me, pursue that? Why isn’t Crossbones somewhere in the mix?”

“I think Crossbones was on screen for something like eight or 12 minutes, and you would think that this character was in 75 different movies the way every day people come up to me all day and talk about Crossbones. I’m taking pictures as if I was Captain America.”

I really like Grillo in general and really liked him as Brock so I would love to see him appear again in the MCU but, in the meantime, we do know that he will be in the upcoming animated Marvel series What If…? as Crossbones, so Marvel hasn’t completely forgotten that he exists.

Let’s just hope they can find a way to get him back into the stories in the future.

What say you all? Would you like to see Grillo appear more in the MCU? Even in a Disney+ series? Let me know your thoughts.
