Look, I love Ghostbusters more than any other franchise, so any bit of news on Ghostbusters: Afterlife is a big deal to me and will likely get covered here, ok? Ok.
So, some cool news about the theme for the third Ghostbusters movie which reveals that yes, the original theme will be back… with a twist.
In a new interview Menahan Street Band, a Brooklyn-formed troupe’s founder Thomas Brenneck has revealed that they worked in 2020 on the new version of Ray Parker Jnr’s Ghostbusters theme in New York with writer/director Jason Reitman’s movie.
“They have a scene [in the movie] where the kids of the original Ghostbusters find their dads’ old [stuff] and a 45 [vinyl single] that’s, like a 60s version of the 80s Ghostbusters, as if Ray Parker Jr’s was a cover of a 60s song,” Brenneck says.
“It’s a really cool idea, so we cut a 60s-sounding version of Ghostbusters while we were in New York, and it’s pretty cool.”
So, presumably Brenneck is wrong about the ‘kids of the original Ghostbusters’ and meant to say Egon’s grandkids – or maybe it’s a massive spoiler, but I don’t think so.
But I do love the idea of this little flip of the Ghostbusters theme in the new movie – although, I would be very surprised if the new movie didn’t also feature a contemporary take on Parker Jnr’s song or the actual original song.
What say you all? Does this sound fun? Or are you sick of re-imagined songs in movies? Let me know all your thoughts, gang.
