GHOSTBUSTERS DAY 2022: Ghostbusters: Firehouse, a sequel to Ghostbusters: Afterlife, is coming!

June 9th, 2022 by Marc Comments

It’s over for another year, but man, what an eventful Ghostbusters Day we had!

Just hours after learning a new Ghostbusters animated series was coming (here), we now learn that, yes!, a new movie is also being written by Ghostbusters: Afterlife scribes Jason Reitman and Gil Kenan and it will be a direct sequel to Afterlife, making it, basically, Ghostbusters IV.

At the Ecto-FEst event last night at the Sony Pictures Studios lot, Reitman, who also directed Afterlife, and Kenan revealed that the new movie’s working title is Firehouse; they likened this to how Afterlife’s working title was Rust City.

“We’re writing another movie,” Reitman told the excited crowd.

“Tonight, we’re going to share the code name for the next chapter in the Spengler family story.

“The last time we saw Ecto-1, it was driving back into Manhattan: the home of Ghostbusters. That’s where our story begins. The code name is Firehouse.”

They revealed that the movie will continue the Spengler family legacy, meaning we will likely see the new cast all return and, given the Firehouse’s presence, will see the great Ernie Hudson back as Winston, who will now control the Ghostbusters franchise in the movie.

We spoke to Ernie Hudson – such a great guy – a few years ago, before even Ghostbusters: Answer the Call and in it he said he always imagined that Winston would take over at the controller of the Ghostbusters chapters all over the world. Watch it here (continues after video):

This year marks 38 years since the first movie changed the world for people like me when it hit cinemas in 1984.

We have more Ghostbusters Day reveals coming in the next couple of hours. And there’s some more great news coming… I promise.

What a time to be Ghostheads!
