A few fun Ghostbusters stories have dropped today folks, so suck in the guts…

It looks Dan Aykroyd is very happy with the direction the new Ghostbusters movie from Paul Feig is taking… but don’t punch the screen just yet.

Speaking to Ron Bennington on Sirius XM (listen to the full interview below), Aykroyd said that, despite the new movie, there’s a chance that a third “traditional” Ghostbusters movie could be made if the Feig incarnation is successful enough.

Though he does stress that he likes Feig’s idea and that GB needed a kick start again (fans of the games, comics, toys and TV shows would disagree but anyway):  “There’s three drafts of the old concept that exists. And we’re going to be able to salvage some of it and use it. Yeah, we’re gonna be able to use it some day. Let’s get this one made and that will reinvigorate the franchise and then we’ll go on to maybe doing a more conventional third sequel as we were planning and another idea I have for it.”

He goes on to talk about the new movie: “I can tell you, as the originator, I’m very happy with what [Feig’s] done. It’s very tasteful. And it needed a reworking. The thing needed a new engine. You know? It needed new exhaust. It needed new steering. And this is what we’re getting.”

He also confirms he’ll be having input into the script that Feig will ultimately film and he’s more than happy with the cast: “The real reality in fact of the third movie with this tremendous cast of women, Melissa McCarthy, Kate McKinnon, Leslie Jones and Kristen Wiig. . . I’ve got three daughters, so I’m all for female empowerment….[Feig] establishes the voices beautifully in these characters. Now of course, he’s got masters playing the roles for him, so this is going to really work in our favor for the third movie.”

Now, the cynic in me thinks this may just be Aykroyd’s way of getting the fans on board this new movie for the studio and, to be honest, given the fact that Sony seem to have difficulty handling one Ghostbusters franchise, I can’t imagine how this being a success could possibly mean that the GBIII we’ve dreamed of could happen, but then again, what do we know?

Is this an agreeable compromise of we eventually get the movie we want? Let us know…

Next up…

It looks like the Ghostbusters boardgame on Kickstarter is still growing and now Cryptozoic, the makers have published the video below which shows the game being played and how the mechanics within it work

And finally…

It looks like there’s a Ghostbusters musical coming according to Ticinonline! Sadly, it’ll only be of interest if you can be in Italy at the time.

On Saturday, March 14th, the Palazzo dei Congressi in Lugano will host Ghostbusters Live – The Eighties Rock Musical.

According to actor and director Lorenzo Fusoni: “This is not just a tribute to the film, but of a more general tribute to the eighties, in that style too, at that kitsch in the good sense of the word … But also, and above all, to the humor of comedy in American years later, unfortunately, has been forgotten … “

It will be produced by a team of 43, including 27 actors, musicians and dancers and will feature light effects and men in ghost suits aplenty we’re promised.
