Gina Carano speaks out after Star Wars firing, gets new movie deal

February 14th, 2021 by Marc Comments

After the shock news late last week that The Mandalorian star Gina Carano has been let go by Lucasfilm/Disney, the star has seemingly moved forward pretty quickly and has already set a new movie deal and spoken out about it.

For quite some time a small faction of people have wanted Carano fired after a Twitter storm and, while none of us really thought it would ever come to anything, come to anything it did.

“The Daily Wire is helping make one of my dreams — to develop and produce my own film — come true. I cried out and my prayer was answered,” Carano said in a statement.

“I am sending out a direct message of hope to everyone living in fear of cancellation by the totalitarian mob. I have only just begun using my voice which is now freer than ever before, and I hope it inspires others to do the same. They can’t cancel us if we don’t let them.”

While we here at FTN would prefer not to become embroiled in the whole event, we will say that we were big fans of Carano in The Mandalorian and felt that she really embodied the strong female characters that have become a part of the Star Wars lore under George Lucas and which, for the most part, Disney had struggled to relay with the movies with the possible exception of Jyn Erso in Rogue One.

So, from that point of view, we really liked Cara Dune and would much prefer her character return and Disney make their peace with the tweets and mobs that started this all. Much the way they did with James Gunn when his horrendous tweets came to light (here).

Anyway, it will be interesting to see what happens with Carano next… and maybe, down the line, we’ll see her return to the galaxy far, far away.
