Well this is… unusual.

It would seem that the Japanese government has recognised a figure that has come to define their popular culture for a long time. This of course is Godzilla… Wait, what?!

Godzilla, a fictional creature that is known primarily for the destruction that it can cause to major metropolitan cities, has been given official Japanese Citizenship. As well as this, Japan has also made the character a tourism ambassador.

All right, despite my somewhat aggressive tone in the earlier section of this article, this is of course all done in the spirit of good fun. Godzilla is one of the most recognisable icons, so it makes sense that Japan would want to find a way to pay tribute to the character.

With a new Japanese entry in the franchise scheduled for 2016, and a sequel to the 2014 American entry also in development, what better time to pay tribute to the King of the Monsters?
