As far as Rian Johnson’s untitled Star Wars: Episode VIII, details are fairly thin on the ground. From John Boyega, we know it will be darker in tone and it has also been delayed for a script rework that will recalibrate the focus on our three new heroes; Finn, Rey and Poe Dameron.

Trying to bring those heroes down however, are the villains of the Dark Side and one of the antagonists we saw in The Force Awakens will definitely return.

Yes, Captain Phasma will return in Star Wars Episode VII, according to Gwendoline Christie who was speaking at last night’s SAG Awards.

“I will be in the next Star Wars movie. I think that’s an exclusive, actually,” Christie told People (via Squareeyed), reiterating her excitement to be involved with the franchise and how hard she lobbied for the job.

Her character, who was aggressively merchandised and promoted, was seemingly sent to an offscreen death in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, although rumours surfaced that she would be in the next movie with greater involvement – she was somewhat underwritten despite the huge promotion.
