Happy 30th Anniversary! Kevin Smith announces third Jay & Silent Bob movie coming

January 7th, 2024 by Marc Comments

Film-maker Kevin smith has sent an email around all his fans, announcing a new Viewaskiewniverse movie is coming to mark the 30yh anniversary of his most famous and enduring characters, Jay and Silent Bob, played by Jay Mews and Smith himself in numerous movies and shows over the years.

The characters first appeared in Clerks in 1994 and have been the common denominator in his universe of movies ever since and now he’s planning on giving them a third movie after Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back in  2001 and then Jay & Silent Bob Reboot in 2019:

“That’s right,” Smith says in the email release, “2024 will see us back in the costumes and fake-hair-hat for a funny fucking flick about an escalating war in the Central Jersey legal weed business! Get ready to giggle at an #askewniverse movie in which nobody dies this time!

Kevin Smith’s Moose Jaws a-go with more Jay and Silent Bob, Mallrats and Red State coming too

“I’m virtually finished with the first draft so expect more news about the flick (including the title) by February! In the meantime, let me just thank you – with every fiber of my being – for supporting #Clerks and #jayandsilentbob across these many years!”

I’ve been a massive fan of Smith’s since I first discovered Clerks when I was at university and have always considered Jay & Bob as side characters at best and, sadly, the two standalone movies have been among Smith’s worst, but they have an audience and the film-maker has previously said that after the second Jay & Bob movie’s massive performance on the home release market, that the studio told him he could make as many as he wanted, so this is hardly a surprise.

I’d much rather revisit the Clerks. Mallrats or Chasing Amy characters again but, given the anniversary this year, I guess this makes sense.

Just please, make it a good movie this time out, sir.

“2024 marks the 30th anniversary of my first film CLERKS – which means that it’s also the 30th birthday of @jayandsilentbob!

“American original @jaymewes and I have been standing next to each other, both professionally and personally, for three decades! So we’ll be celebrating all year long with signings at @jayandsilentbobstash, Jay & Silent Bob’s Sexy Sleepover at @smodcastlecinemas in June, and useless plastic trinkets on the JayAndSilentBob dot com website!

“But the biggest way #jasonmewes and I will be observing our characters’ 30th anniversary is by making a NEW JAY AND SILENT BOB MOVIE!

“That’s right: 2024 will see us back in the costumes and fake-hair-hat for a funny fucking flick about an escalating war in the Central Jersey legal weed business! Get ready to giggle at an #askewniverse movie in which nobody dies this time!

You’ve afforded us ample opportunities to play dress up and make-pretend for a living – even after over a quarter of a century! Snootch to the Nootch! (This awesome anniversary art is by the incomparable @captain_ribman!).”
