Well, it goes to show that nothing is impossible.
Kevin Smith, he of Silent Bob fame, has long been a favourite here at FTN Towers – but Clerks III did leave a bad taste, I can’t lie – but we’d guessed that his planned horror trilogy, his True North trilogy, were never set to be finished but, and not for the first time, it seems we were wrong.
Starting off with the better than is should be Tusk in 2014 and then on to the God-awful Yoga Hosers in 2016, Smith had wanted to make his third movie, Moose Jaws, but funding seemed to be always just out of reach.
Now, don’t get us wrong, Smith can direct horror with his 2011 Red State being a very exciting and impressive departure for him, but we weren’t exactly holding out breath for Moose Jaws.
Clerks III does so much wrong… here’s our review
At Galaxy Con recently, Smith confirmed that Lionsgate are going to let him get behind the camera again for his Jaws but with a moose vision.
“[Moose Jaws] is a movie I’ve been threatening to make for a long time, but thanks to the good folks at Lionsgate, it’s actually going to happen,” Smith told the crowd.
Smith had previous said that his Blu-ray and DVD sales for his New Jersey movies – Jay and Silent Bob Reboot and Clerks III – were so good that Lionsgate want him to keep making movies and actually asked him what he’d like to make next.
“I said, ‘I got this movie called Moose Jaws,’ and they were like, ‘What’s Moose Jaws?’ And I was like, ‘Moose Jaws is like Jaws but with a Moose instead of a shark’. And they said, ‘What’s the budget on that?’ I was like, ‘About three million bucks,’ they’re like, ‘We’ll make four of them.’ So it looks like Moose Jaws is finally gonna happen.”
But it won’t stop there, as his long-developing Mallrats sequel (full details here), Twilight of the Mallrats happening, along with another new Jay and Silent Bob movie, a sequel to the previously mentioned Red State and a new movie called The 4:30 Movie.
Love him or hate him, there’s no keeping Kevin Smith down. Let’s hope it’s the Dr Jekyl Smith and not his alter-ego, Mr Hyde Smith that we get.
