After Kevin Feige said a few weeks ago that we were veryy close to finding out who would be directing Captain Marvel, as well as who would be directing, people have been scrutinising every bit of info that appears online.
And never let it be said we don’t like to scrutinise with the best of them.
According to We Got This Covered: “a private meeting was held last week between Marvel representatives and independent filmmaker Elizabeth Wood in order to discuss potential directorial duties. It’s believed that the meeting was brokered by Wood’s producer-husband, Gabriel Nussbaum, with whom Wood has worked on all her professional projects.”
Wood is still a relatively unknown director and her movie White Girl was very well received in Cannes earlier this year, earning a Grand Jury Prize nomination and a distribution deal with Netflix.
It’s all specualtion but it’s interesting to see that maybe, just maybe, Marvel are continuing to stretch their arms around directors that don’t immediately seem to be the people for the job and looking at talent rather than star-power.
In related news, is Hit Girl herself, Chloe Grace Moretz, hinting at something or perhaps putting herself forward for the Captain Marvel role?
This month’s issue of Glamour Moretz appears on the cover (below with Marvel (inset)) wearing a leather jacket that many are sure is a duplicate of the Captain Marvel outfit… and we can certainly see why.
However, is this a nod to things to come? Is Moretz just a fan? Is it merely pop culture infiltrating the mainstream more? Or is it just a co-incidence? We’ll know soon enough.
While we love Moretz, we reckon she’s a bit too young for the role, given she’s a captain in the military in the comics and at just 20 that’s a bit of a stretch for her.
We reckon, due to her role in Kick-Ass and being quoted as saying in the past that she longs to see a powerful female superhero in the MCU, this is just a slight of hand with no big screen payoff… but we definitely would like to see the young actress sign up to a big superhero role soon.
Let us know what you guys think…
