It looks like disney may be planning to shake things up with the casting of their live-action Little Mermaid.
Word on the Nerd street is that Spider-man: Homecoming and The Greatest Showman star Zendaya is set for the role or, at the very least, has been offered it.
Disney has been pursuing a live-action universe featuring all their animated hits for the last few years and The Little Mermaid, while still not with a release date, is surely high on their ‘must do’ list.
It would of course be a brave move to cast a black actress in the role of Ariel for the movie and undoubtedly there will be backlash over it as Ariel in the animated movie is white with red hair, that said, we reckon Zendaya would be great in the role, having liked her in Spider-man: Homecoming and then adoring her in The Greatest Showman.
“Alan Menken and Lin-Manuel Miranda will team up to compose the music for the film, as well as add new songs to the film. Mary Poppins Returns director Rob Marshall is set to helm the film, from a script by Jane Goldman (X-Men: Days Of Future Past). Production on the film is expected to take place in Puerto Rico and Cape Town Africa.”
