You may recall a few weeks back we reported that Hasbro had bought the rights to Power Rangers from Saban (here) and we speculated that, down the line, we may see the rangers return to the big screen and lo, we were right.
It has been confirmed by Brian Goldner, Hasbro CEO that, yes, more Power Ranger movies is part of the plan for the franchise/toys/lucrious theme tune.
“The fact that we can acquire the Power Rangers brand and plug and play that right into our strategy where we activate it in entertainment, motion pictures in the future and then of course across toys and games and consumer products and do so globally,” Goldner said in a statement.
“We felt the brand was very under leveraged and undervalued. We feel we can exploit it to a much greater extent and it was a great opportunity to acquire the brand.”
While we actually really enjoyed the 2017 Power Rangers movie and felt it deserved a sequel, we would be very surprised if that was the direction Hasbro went, but rather we’d imagine the Power Rangers fit rather neatly into the same universe as Transformers, MASK, GI Joe and all the others that Hasbro are planning on tying together in a shared universe.
Either way, you can bet that at some point in our future we’ll be sitting in a cinema humming along to ‘Go, go, Power Rangers!’.
